Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops (0.1% w/v, 1 mg/mL)

Sterile eye drops, solution; each mL contains sodium hyaluronate 1 mg (0.1% w/v); presented as a 0.4 mL single-dose unit [1].
Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, a natural glycosaminoglycan with high water-binding capacity; it acts as an eye lubricant, helping to moisten the eye surface and relieve dryness [1][3].
Inactive ingredients in the reference 0.1% label: purified water, sodium chloride, pyridoxine (vitamin B6) and cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12); some presentations also contain disodium edetate [1].
The 0.4 mL single-dose form is preservative-free; preservative-free artificial tears are an option for people sensitive to preservatives [1][3].

WHO Prescribing Guidance

Indications · Administration · Dosage · Precautions

Reference information summarised from WHO prescribing guidance. Expand each item below — clinical use must always follow the locally approved product insert.

🎯Indications▾
Relief of the symptoms of dry eye syndrome, including burning, irritation, dryness and discomfort of the eye [1][2][3]. Temporary relief of discomfort due to minor irritation of the eye or exposure to wind or sun, and use as a protectant against further irritation [1]. Lubrication of eyes irritated by contact lenses or dry air, and to help the eye heal after a corneal abrasion (per NHS patient information) [2].
💧Administration▾
Twist and pull the tab to open the single-dose unit; do not use the unit if the container is not intact [1]. Wash hands first; tilt the head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket and instill the drops into the pocket; blink to spread the solution [2]. Do not touch the tip of the container to the eye, eyelashes or any surface, to avoid contamination; if the tip accidentally touches anything, wipe it with a clean, dry tissue [1][2]. If other eye drops are used, apply sodium hyaluronate first and wait 10-15 minutes before instilling the other eye medication [2]. Storage: 15-30 °C; do not freeze; protect from light (sunlight); keep out of the reach of children [1].
⚖️Dosage▾
Instill one or two drops into the affected eye(s) as needed, starting at least 2-4 times daily; frequency may be increased (up to every 2 hours with preservative-free drops) if symptoms persist [1][3].
⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾
For external ophthalmic use only; do not swallow. The 0.4 mL single-dose unit is for single use - discard any remaining solution after opening [1][2]. Stop use and ask a doctor if eye pain, changes in vision, continued redness or irritation develop, or if the condition worsens or persists for more than 72 hours [1]. Do not use if allergic to sodium hyaluronate or any ingredient of the product [2]. If accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a poison control centre right away; pregnant or breast-feeding women should consult a health professional before use [1]. Temporary blurred vision may occur immediately after instillation; wait until vision clears before driving or operating machinery [2]. Do not use the solution if it has changed colour, and use only if the container is intact and before the expiry date [1]. Maintain good hygiene during use; avoid touching the tip to any surface to prevent contamination [1][2]. Generally suitable for use with contact lenses, but check with the doctor after an eye injury such as a corneal abrasion [2]. For full prescribing information, refer to the approved product label / package leaflet of the product concerned [1][2][3].
