🎯Indications▾

Hyperthyroidism and thyrotoxicosis (Graves' disease), pre-operative preparation and antithyroid therapy under endocrinology supervision.

💧Administration▾

Oral with or after food; doses are given once daily or in divided doses and adjusted by thyroid function tests.

⚖️Dosage▾

Adults initial 15–40 mg daily, then maintenance 5–15 mg daily; children 0.5–0.7 mg/kg/day in divided doses. Measure thyroid function 4–6 weeks after each dose change.

⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾

Agranulocytosis is the key risk (0.3–0.6%) — advise patients to report fever or sore throat immediately and obtain a full blood count urgently. Also monitor for hepatic injury and rash; treatment options in pregnancy need specialist guidance.
