🎯Indications▾

Trachoma (WHO recommended for mass administration), respiratory tract infections, otitis media, STIs (chlamydia) and typhoid fever.

💧Administration▾

Oral once daily; for trachoma WHO uses directly observed single-dose therapy. Take 1 hour before or 2 hours after food where possible.

⚖️Dosage▾

Adults 500 mg once daily for 3 days, or 500 mg on day 1 then 250 mg daily on days 2–5. Children 10 mg/kg on day 1 then 5 mg/kg daily on days 2–5. Trachoma: single dose 20 mg/kg (max 1 g).

⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾

Caution in hepatic impairment and QT prolongation; avoid with other QT-prolonging drugs. Not recommended for severe infection where rapid bactericidal action is required.
