🎯Indications▾

Severe Gram-negative infections, neonatal sepsis and pyelonephritis (usually combined with a beta-lactam); ophthalmic and topical forms for local infections; kanamycin as a second-line antituberculosis agent.

💧Administration▾

Intramuscular or intravenous slow infusion (single daily dose preferred); eye drops applied to the conjunctival sac.

⚖️Dosage▾

Gentamicin adults 3–5 mg/kg once daily (or divided every 8 h); children 7.5 mg/kg once daily. Neonates 4–5 mg/kg once daily. Adjust by renal function and therapeutic drug monitoring.

⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾

Nephrotoxic and ototoxic — avoid prolonged use, avoid concurrent loop diuretics, and monitor renal function and hearing. Ototoxicity may be irreversible. Contraindicated in myasthenia gravis.
