🎯Indications▾

Severe falciparum malaria (injectable artesunate is WHO first-line, then a full ACT course) and uncomplicated malaria as combination therapy.

💧Administration▾

Artesunate: intravenous or intramuscular injection, reconstituted immediately before use. Oral artemether/artesunate always combined with a partner antimalarial.

⚖️Dosage▾

Artesunate injection adults and children 2.4 mg/kg (max 120 mg) at 0, 12 and 24 h, then once daily until oral therapy can be taken, followed by a full ACT course. Oral artesunate 4 mg/kg once daily for 3 days with a partner drug.

⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾

Hospital use; risk of delayed haemolysis after treatment (monitor haemoglobin for 4 weeks). Avoid in first-trimester pregnancy unless severe malaria when benefit outweighs risk.
