🎯Indications▾

Urinary tract, GI (typhoid, bacillary dysentery), respiratory and bone/joint infections with susceptible organisms; ophthalmic and otic forms for local infections.

💧Administration▾

Oral with plenty of water, 1–2 hours apart from antacids, iron, zinc or calcium (chelation reduces absorption). IV infusion for severe cases.

⚖️Dosage▾

Ciprofloxacin adults 250–750 mg every 12 h; children 10–15 mg/kg every 12 h. Ofloxacin adults 200–400 mg every 12 h. Renal impairment requires dose reduction.

⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾

WHO restricts quinolone use in children and pregnancy to severe indications. Avoid in tendinitis history (tendon rupture), myasthenia gravis, and with QT-prolonging drugs; stop if tendon pain or neuropathy develops.
