🎯Indications▾

Amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, anaerobic infections and part of H. pylori regimens (WHO essential medicine).

💧Administration▾

Oral with or after food; intravenous form for severe anaerobic infection.

⚖️Dosage▾

Adults 200–400 mg three times daily, or 500 mg every 8 h for severe infection; amoebiasis 400–800 mg every 8 h for 5–10 days. Children 7.5 mg/kg every 8 h. Trichomoniasis: 2 g single dose or 400 mg twice daily for 7 days (treat partners).

⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾

Avoid alcohol during and for 48 hours after therapy (disulfiram-like reaction). Caution in hepatic impairment and blood dyscrasias; avoid high-dose single regimens in pregnancy (first trimester).
