🎯Indications▾

Primary and secondary carnitine deficiency, including deficiency caused by valproate therapy or renal dialysis (WHO-listed for these indications).

💧Administration▾

Oral solution/tablets with meals, or slow intravenous infusion for severe deficiency under supervision.

⚖️Dosage▾

Adults 1–3 g/day in divided doses (up to 4 g/day in dialysis patients); children 50–100 mg/kg/day divided every 6–8 hours. Adjust according to plasma carnitine levels and clinical response.

⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾

May cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and a fishy body odour. Use with caution in seizure disorders and in patients on warfarin; monitor renal function in prolonged use.
