🎯Indications▾

Oedema in cardiac, hepatic and renal disease; acute pulmonary oedema; hypertension; hypercalcaemia and fluid overload (WHO essential medicine).

💧Administration▾

Oral tablets/solution, or slow intravenous injection for acute oedema. Give in the morning to avoid nocturia; take loop diuretics with or without food.

⚖️Dosage▾

Furosemide adults 20–40 mg once daily, up to 80 mg (IV 20–40 mg, doubled as required); children 0.5–2 mg/kg per dose. Monitor weight, electrolytes and renal function; add potassium replacement if needed.

⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾

Causes hypovolaemia, hypokalaemia, hyponatraemia and ototoxicity (rapid IV injection). Caution in hepatic coma, gout and diabetes; monitor potassium and creatinine closely and continue therapy only while oedema persists.
