🎯Indications▾

WHO essential antifungal for cryptococcal meningitis, oesophageal and oral candidiasis, vulvovaginal candidiasis and systemic fungal infection; topicals for mucocutaneous candidiasis.

💧Administration▾

Oral or intravenous infusion (fluconazole: infusion over ≥30 minutes); topical creams or pessaries for local candidiasis.

⚖️Dosage▾

Fluconazole vaginal candidiasis 150 mg single dose; mucosal candidiasis 50–100 mg daily for 7–14 days; cryptococcosis 400 mg daily (per protocol). Children 3–6 mg/kg/day. Reduce dose in renal impairment.

⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾

CYP interactions (warfarin, phenytoin, sulfonylureas, some antibiotics). Risk of QT prolongation and hepatic toxicity — monitor liver enzymes in prolonged therapy; avoid in pregnancy (high doses) and review interactions before prescribing.
