🎯Indications▾

Type 2 diabetes mellitus, as add-on or monotherapy according to national guidelines; metformin is the WHO-recommended first-line oral agent.

💧Administration▾

Oral with meals (metformin and glinides with food to reduce GI effects and hypoglycaemia). Maintain adequate hydration with SGLT2 inhibitors.

⚖️Dosage▾

Metformin adults 500 mg once or twice daily, titrated to 500–1000 mg twice daily (max 2–3 g/day). Glibenclamide 2.5–5 mg daily before breakfast, titrated. Dapagliflozin 10 mg once daily. Reduce doses in renal impairment.

⚠️Precautions & Warnings▾

Metformin — avoid in severe renal impairment and during acute illness or contrast-imaging (lactic acidosis). Sulfonylureas — hypoglycaemia risk, especially in the elderly. SGLT2 inhibitors — genital/urinary infections, euglycaemic ketoacidosis and volume depletion; stop before major surgery.
